About the author

Doug James grew up and was educated in Florence, Alabama. He attended Freed-Hardeman University when it was a two-year college. He completed his bachelors' degree at Florence State College (now the University of North Alabama), where he majored in biology. He taught in the public schools of north Alabama before attending Auburn University for a masters' degree in speech communication.
He taught at Auburn for four years prior to taking up residence in Mobile, Alabama, to teach at Spring Hill College.
While working on his doctorate at Walden University, James served as an assistant principal and classroom teacher in Mobile public schools.
Upon retiring in 1992, James returned to Spring Hill College as an adjunct professor of communication arts, where he is currently employed. He also teaches classes at the Mobile campus of Enterprise-Ozark Community College, an aviation school.
James served on active and reserve duty with the U.S. Navy as a FMF Corpsman, attached to the U.S. Marines. His duty and training sites included the Naval hospital at Beaufort, South Carolina (Parris Island), Camp Pendleton, California, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Twenty-Nine Palms, California, Cherry Point, North Carolina, Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, and Mount Rangley, Maine.
